Similar problem, but problem is trying to save old.xls files in 2011 to.xlsx format. Probably started in Sept/Oct 2013 timeframe, but was not worried since my system is a stand alone and I don't have to transfer Excel files to anyone else. Any new files I create are saved as.xlsx format. I do not have any forbidden characters at my drive level or within any of the five user accounts I have that come down the path to the Excel files. I have not yet played with the.pref files yet. Has anyone come up with a fix.

Convert Mac File To Word

I can not believe that forbidden characters outside the path to the Excel file would cause this problem. Thanks, Doby.
